The Semilla Ministry consists of a group of adults and young adults who have prepared themselves for over two years through the Hispanic Institute of Loyola University, and continue our formation through retreats, workshops and conferences. We also have Deacons ordained through the Archdioceses of Chicago.
In 1999 we received a letter from Rev. Raymond Baumhar S.J., Director of the Office for Evangelization, approving the Semilla Ministry as an agency of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
The letter was signed by Cardinal Frances George, O.M.I.
We have been to many Catholic Churches in Chicago, and have also traveled to Florida, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Detroit, Venezuela, Iowa and Wisconsin, helping parishes with the formation of leadership teams and evangelizing God's people.
Our ministry has many goals, but one of the most important ones is to help individuals become more involved in their local church. We do this through a variety of formation and evangelization tools, including retreats for married couples, parents of children in Religious Education Programs, young people, and for liturgy teams. We host seminars and workshops for parish leadership teams and participate in conferences whose focus is evangelization in the Catholic Church. We also have a beautiful choir (Sembrador) and a dance group (David) that helps to bring the word of God in a very special way.
Our office is located at St. Wenceslaus Parish and we are under the supervision of Fr. Marco A. Mercado, director of the Hispanic Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
One of our biggest projects has been the Pastoral "Mi Cristo Joven". For a detailed explanation of what this fellowship means, please see "Mi Cristo Joven" on the main page.
On May 12, 2009 we were recognized by the Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry of the Archdiocese of Chicago, for our contribution to cathechetical ministry at St. Wenceslaus parish.
